Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about So Far Away (feat. Jamie Scott & Romy Dya). By Songfacts®.

This future-pop ballad is a collaboration between Marin Garrix and David Guetta. The pair debuted the tune on July 30, 2017 during Martin Garrix's headline set at the electronic music festival, Tomorrowland, when he invited Guetta onstage to perform the track.

The song originally featured English singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding, but it seems the singer's label and management team were displeased with the live preview as they pulled her vocal cut from the track. Garrix's take is that Goulding pulled the plug on the song herself. He claimed she "didn't want to release it," but the songstress stated that her management and label were behind the decision, and that she personally loves the tune.

Goulding's vocals were replaced by those of Romy Dya, the Dutch singer who originally recorded the vocals for the demo version. She's joined by Jamie Scott on male lead. Scott had two UK top 40 singles in the mid 2000s with his own band, Jamie Scott and the Town ("Just" and "Searching"). He has subsequently carved out a successful career as a songwriter, co-penning many of One Direction's hits.
