Beyoncé rose to fame as the lead singer of Destiny's Child. She released her first solo album a year before the group disbanded. In addition to her music career, she has appeared in several movies, including Austin Powers in Goldmember, The Pink Panther and Dreamgirls.
She set a record at the 2010 Grammy Awards for most Grammys won by a female artist in one night, winning six of the ten awards she was nominated for. The only other artist to have ten nominations is Lauryn Hill, who set the mark in 1999 with her album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Beyoncé is also the first female artist ever to win the International Artist Award at the 2007 American Music Awards. This unique honor has been given only to a few artists, including Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Rod Smith, and Rod Stewart.
Beyoncé says the person who had given her the best advice is Oprah Winfrey, which she got from watching her show. Beyoncé told iVillage: "I just will never forget her talking about the power of 'No.' That helped me so much, especially when trying to balance everything and so I have to learn how to say no when I don't like something. That's a very hard thing to do because I don't like to disappoint people and I work hard, but that has also been very helpful to me when I don't feel passionate about something - saying no and meaning it."
