Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Portishead. By Songfacts®.

Portishead is a trip-hop band formed in Bristol, England, but they curiously named themselves after the small town of Portishead, the home town of Geoff Barrow, despite claiming to hate this place.

Before releasing their debut album Dummy in 1994, they released a short film with a spy theme called To Kill A Dead Man and also composed the accompanying music.

The band was founded in 1991 by keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Geoff Barrow and singer Beth Gibbons, who writes the melodies and lyrics. During the production of Dummy they were joined by former Jazz guitarist Adrian Utley.
