Born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete in San Antonio, Texas, she immediately moved to the Houston suburbs with her mom after her birth. Megan's father spent the first eight years of her life in prison and died when she was 15.
Her mother, Holly Aleece Thomas, had her own rap career and was known around Houston as Holly-Wood. She would bring Megan with her to recording sessions instead of putting her daughter in daycare. Sadly, she passed away in March 2019 after battling a cancerous brain tumor.
Megan started rapping when she was seven years old using a Barbie toy that played prerecorded instrumentals and beats. "I don't know who at [Mattel] thought of that," she recalled to GQ, "but it was fire!"
