Prepared Piano

The Prepared Piano music genre is a type of experimental music that involves the alteration of a standard acoustic piano by placing objects on or between the strings or hammers of the instrument. This technique was pioneered by John Cage in the 1940s and has since been used by a variety of composers and performers. The objects used to alter the sound of the piano can range from screws and bolts to rubber erasers and pieces of paper. The resulting sound is often described as being percussive, metallic, and unpredictable.
