Post-punk is a genre of rock music that emerged in the late 1970s as a reaction against the perceived excesses of punk rock. Post-punk bands typically incorporated elements of funk, jazz, and dub into their sound, as well as incorporating more experimental and avant-garde elements. Post-punk bands often featured angular, dissonant guitar riffs, and often used synthesizers and drum machines to create a more electronic sound. Post-punk bands often had a dark, brooding sound, and often explored themes of alienation, nihilism, and despair.
