Classic J-Rock is a genre of Japanese rock music that emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It is characterized by its heavy use of electric guitars, synthesizers, and drums, as well as its melodic and often melancholic sound. Classic J-Rock is heavily influenced by Western rock music, but also incorporates elements of traditional Japanese music, such as taiko drums and shamisen. Classic J-Rock bands often feature a lead vocalist, as well as a backing band of guitarists, bassists, and drummers. Popular classic J-Rock bands include The Blue Hearts, The Yellow Monkey, and The Pillows.
