Rap Underground Mexicano is a Mexican hip-hop genre that emerged in the late 1990s. It is characterized by its hard-hitting beats, aggressive lyrics, and socially conscious themes. The genre is heavily influenced by American hip-hop, but also incorporates traditional Mexican music elements such as mariachi and cumbia. It is often seen as a form of protest music, as many of the lyrics address issues such as poverty, inequality, and violence. The genre has become increasingly popular in Mexico and has spawned a number of successful artists, including Cartel de Santa, Control Machete, and Molotov.
