Nohay

Nohay is a genre of Shia Muslim devotional music that is traditionally performed during the month of Muharram. It is typically sung in Urdu, Persian, or Arabic and is accompanied by a dholak (a two-headed drum) and a harmonium. The lyrics of Nohay are usually religious in nature and focus on the suffering of Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. Nohay is often performed in a call-and-response style, with the lead singer singing a line and the chorus responding.
