The first single from The Mindsweep, the song was debuted by Zane Lowe on his October 20, 2014 BBC Radio 1 show.
Frontman Rou Reynolds said regarding the song: "Life can often seem like a tumultuous onslaught of ups and downs; good and bad; euphoric and arduous. Our circumstances can change in a flicker of an eyelid. Sometimes it's beneficial to take a step back from everything and appreciate the honor that we're still alive."
Rou Reynolds explained the song's meaning to Kerrang!: "It's a celebration of the fact that we're alive, and the magnitude of luck it took for you to even exist at all," he said. "On the one hand, there's the idea of cheating death for however many years you've been on the planet, but it's also looking at it from a bigger perspective. We're alive right now thanks to that unbroken line of successful acts of procreation and evolution. It's quite mind-boggling to think that if just one of your ancestors hadn't procreated, you wouldn't be here at all."
