This is the second single and title track from American singer-songwriter and American Idol season six runner-up Blake Lewis' second album. The song topped Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs chart - the singer's first track to do so.
The song pays homage to independent record stores. Lewis explained: "The inspiration for my song 'Heartbreak on Vinyl' is the closing of indie record stores in Seattle, which saddened me as I literally watched the demise of traditional record stores."
The song's accompanying video features clips from movies taking place in record shops. The clips are from Empire Records, Pretty in Pink, This Is Spinal Tap, Airheads, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Half Baked and High Fidelity.
