Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Megan Pete got the nickname "Thee Stallion" in high school, "stallion" being a Southern slang term applied to big, attractive women. Pete began writing her own raps at age 14 and began to build up a fanbase by posting her freestyles on her Instagram. This saucy club banger, first released in June 2018, proved to be her breakout hit.
First included on Pete's Tina Snow mixtape, "Big Ole Freak" was released with little fanfare but slowly started being played by rap radio. The self-proclaimed Stallion started using social media to encourage fans to request it on their local stations. The song really took off with the #BigOleFreakChallenge, when the Houston rapper kicked off a twerking competition at a gas station and invited the world to try and outdo her. Participants were encouraged to copy Pete's challenge by twerking to the song at their local gas stations. Growing social media buzz combined with airplay gains resulted in "Big Ole Freak" entering the Hot 100 on April 20, 2019.
Lyrically, "Big Ole Freak" is an explicit and unapologetic anthem in which Megan Thee Stallion boasts at how she has her man wrapped around her fingers. My body a drug and he need it He beggin' me for the treatment He throw a fit when I leave him The Texan knows she's good in bed and is confident in her sexuality.
