Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about The Violence. By Songfacts®.

This hard-hitting rock anthem was written by vocalist Danny Worsnop and guitarist Ben Bruce. Lyrically, the track is a biting statement on the toxic state of humanity. But all they wanted was violence To plant their seeds and divide us If they want the worst that's inside us Well, bring on the violence, the violence Worsnop explained: "Thematically, the song is about the way mainstream media and politicians manipulate and spread mistruth amongst the people to encourage and create anger, fear, division, and conflict in their quest to control and acquire power. As the history books have shown, this only goes so far before the people stand up and say enough is enough."

The song is accompanied by a seven-minute short film written and directed by Los Angeles-based filmmaker Jensen Noen. He previously directed Asking Alexandria's clip for "Into The Fire." The video is a reversal of standard horror tropes in which the band portray everyday zombies; we watch the Asking Alexandria quintet battle the onslaught of the bloodthirsty humans that are relentlessly hunting them down. The visual takes inspiration from cinematic clips such as Jonas Åkerlund's nine-and-a-half minute Tarantino homage for Lady Gaga "Telephone."
