Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Tompkins Square Park. By Songfacts®.

This is a song from Mumford & Sons Wilder Mind album, for which a number of tracks were written and demoed at The National band member Aaron Dessner's garage studios in Brooklyn. This song was named after a nearby New York City location, a small East Village park favored by hipster dog walkers. The patch of green is bounded on the north by East 10th Street, on the east by Avenue B.

The track opens the Wilder Mind album. Bassist and multi-instrumentalist Ted Dwane told The Music.com: "This was a song that was informed by New York, and one that came to the record quite late. We wrote about 50 songs for this album, and I dunno, this one was sort of kicking around, but it didn't really form its identity until quite late on." "It was really nice to have that metronomic drum beat in it, it feels really urban. We thought it felt like a pretty bold opener, and it's a fun way to start the record."
