Kinks frontman Ray Davies wrote this song. It wasn't released as a single, but it's one of his favorites, and one he cites as one of the group's most underrated songs.
By 1969, The Kinks were superstars in their native England, but they never got much traction in America, since after their disastrous 1965 tour of the country they were blackballed by the musician's union (why is unclear, but it probably had to do with payment disputes and conflicts with union members). It wasn't until December 1969 that the band returned to America, and when they did, it was humbling, as they played much smaller venues. It was on the plane returning from this jaunt that Ray Davies wrote "This Time Tomorrow." "The song is about going into the unexpected, unexplored territory," he told Rolling Stone. "What does the future hold for us?"
