Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know). By Songfacts®.

Here, Matty Healy sings about his infatuation with a woman he only knows through a screen. The girl is sensually adventurous and wants to get intimate with him, but at first the singer misses the signals because he's too caught up worrying what she thinks of him. There's something 'bout her stare that makes you nervous And you say things that you don't mean This leads her to think he's "too shy," but by the second verse, Healy is calling her up naked. The singer, though, is uncomfortable about basing their connection around sex and starts drinking rather than facing up to his feelings.

The guitar-driven track premiered on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds on April 23, 2020. Speaking on the show about the song, Healy said: "It's about chasing connection; it's about getting naked on FaceTime. It's the lighter version of some of the observations of what we're all up to on the internet."

The 1975 debuted the ode to online lust during their concert at the Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham, England, on February 15, 2020 as part of their Music for Cars Tour.
