Meghan Trainor told the story of this song in a track-by-track. "'Champagne Problems' was the last song I wrote for this album because there was a problem with the album - I didn't have enough songs or something or I didn't have enough publishing, we had to write more songs and my manager says, 'By the way, these are all champagne problems - fun, easy problems that you don't have to cry about, you just gotta get over them.' I knew right away we have to write this, we have to write this song. It came out in about nine minutes with my good friends at their house and it was fun dancing and I was very excited about it and I was very involved with the production."
This is not to be confused with the Nick Jonas track of the same title, which was released around the same time.
