Here, a triumphant Kendrick Lamar flaunts his successes. "This what God feel like, yeah," he victoriously croons. "Laughing to the bank like aha, yeah." K.Dot is declaring himself to be a faux rap deity.
Lamar's several minutes of bravado is sung over a wavy beat supplied by: Illinois producer Cardo, who has known Lamar since 2010. Cardo has produced on many rappers albums and singles including Schoolboy Q's "THat Part" and Travis Scott's "Goosebumps." Yung Exclusive, a producer best known for his work with Cardo, with whom he produced Kendrick Lamar's "untitled 02 | 06.23.2014" and "untitled 07 | 2014-2016." Daniel Tannenbaum, better known by his stage name B?kon and formerly known as Danny Keyz, who co- produced or supplied vocals on eight of Damn's fourteen tracks. Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, who is the CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment. Manhattan Beach's Ricci Riera, who is member of the production group T.H.C. He worked on Lamar's " m.A.A.d city." Top Dawg in-house producers Sounwave and DJ Dahi.
DJ Dahi recalled the story of the song to Spin: "You know, he'd been saying he was just saying that in the hook just walking around the studio for a long time: 'This what God feel like. Laughin' to the bank like a-ha.' He was doing it on different types of beats. So it was a matter of we just gotta make the beat that fits that record, you know? It was just kind of an idea he kept cookin' up. It was probably one of the last few records we were working on. 'GOD.' was him kind of putting that out in the atmosphere. It kind of just came together from that point: We'll just call the record 'GOD.' because that's the main thing he's repeating. It was just kind of an idea he kept cooking up. It was probably one of the last few records we were working on."
