Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about You Give Me Something. By Songfacts®.

The lyrics to this Blues-type of song are about love being discovered by someone who never expected to find it and is struggling over what to do with it.

This was Morrison's first single, and it was nominated for a BRIT Award for Best British Single. In America, it got some exposure when the FX Network used it in their promos.

James Morrison got talked into putting brass onto the song when he wanted it to be upbeat and rocking. Once the single proved successful, the singer-songwriter's record company pressurized him into releasing more tunes along the same lines. "They wanted to sell me like Frank Sinatra, I always felt like I was being sold on the wrong angle, this guy who does ballads and love songs," he told HMV in 2022. "It gave me a career, and, when things are going well, you want to keep going so I wrote more ballads. I feel like I'm always underestimated, when people come to see me live I can blow them away."
