Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Those Nights. By Songfacts®.

This song is about the end-of-night desire to be with somebody. Aren't we all just looking for a little bit of hope these days? Looking for somebody we can wake up with? Doom Days is a concept album in which singer Dan Smith experiences a colorful night out in search of distraction from an upcoming apocalypse. "Those Nights" takes place at 5:46 AM as the singer stumbles back into his house after the heavy night. He has found a person to go home with but doesn't really know her. Smith is unsure whether his companion will fill his longing for that special someone.

The Crooked Cynics-directed video sees Dan Smith singing from an old sofa in a dimly lit room full of unconscious bodies. He is searching for something meaningful amidst the chaos.

Dan Smith told Q magazine that the line, "Aren't we all just looking for a little bit of hope these days" sums up the Doom Days album. He explained: "We set out to make a much simpler rave record about escapism and hedonism, then reality set in and it became a more nuanced album about a search for distraction in complicated times. As it progresses, there's a realization that maybe the hope is in other people."
