This song is about the unintended consequences of our actions. The title is a play on this theme - combining the phrases "carpal tunnel," a condition caused by repetitive hand motion, with "tunnel of love," an amusement park ride that sends couples on a boat ride through a dark passage.
Wesley Eisold of the punk band American Nightmare sued Fall Out Boy for copyright infringement over this tune and two other tracks from Infinity On High ("Golden" and "Bang The Doldrums"), alleging FOB bassist/lyricist Pete Wentz lifted lyrical elements from Eisold's work. The parties settled out of court and Eisold was given co-writer credits on the offending songs and an "inspirador" nod in the liner notes.
Infinity On High is Fall Out Boy's third studio album and their first to debut at #1 on the albums chart. "The Carpal Tunnel Of Love" was the first tune to drop when the band leaked it to AbsolutePunk a month before its December 12, 2006 debut on iTunes.
