"Remember Me" was composed by songwriting couple Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez for the Pixar movie Coco. The song is performed variously within the film in a variety of contexts by four different artists. Miguel and Mexican artist Natalia Lafourcade then perform a pop version during the film's end credits.
Robert Lopez wrote the music and Kristen Anderson-Lopez the lyrics. The couple live in New York but travel to the West Coast often, leaving their children with caretakers and Anderson-Lopez wanted to apply the lyric to their own family situation. "How do we stay connected when we are so far away?," she said to Variety. "I wrote that lyric from a very personal place... and it seemed to work for what [the film] needed."
As Coco takes place in Mexico some of the song is sung in Spanish.
