Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Disasterpiece. By Songfacts®.

In this song, Slipknot lead singer Corey Taylor is reminiscing about a bully who used to pick on him. Taylor often talks about how his disgust for bullies and anyone who uses their strength to hurt people who don't deserve it. In this song, he has finally snapped and is letting loose his aggression, singing about his desire to kill this guy and make him feel the pain he has inflicted.

This song was brought up in a murder trial of Jason Harris and Amber Riley, who killed their friend Terry Ray Taylor the night of May 23, 2003 in San Bernadino, California. According to testimony, Harris and Riley recited lyrics to this song as they repeatedly stabbed and nearly decapitated Taylor. As past trials involving Judas Priest and Ozzy Osbourne songs proved, Slipknot bears no legal burden for their lyrics, but predictable outrage ensued, with pundits blaming Slipknot for contributing to the delinquency of the killers, citing lyrics like "I want to slit your throat and f--k the wound." There will always be some disturbed individuals who misappropriate and artist's work, and that happened again with Slipknot in 2008 when a kid in South Africa wore a Slipknot mask to school and killed another kid with a sword. Corey Taylor responded to this incident by saying, "At the end of the day, there are always going to be mental disorders and people who cause violence for no other reason than the fact that they're f--ked up and lost." Slipknot drummer Chris Fehn told us that he could relate to the judgments and put downs many kids endure, and that Metal is a positive outlet for these kids, who often go on to great things. "I wore Slayer shirts to junior high school and stuff. And people were like, "you're just an idiot," said Fehn. "These are the kids that run the world, and people need to recognize that. It's not the kid that has everything given to him. I just think that metal fans in general just have a passion for life that a lot of people don't get."
