Known as Gene Simmons' signature song, this was actually written by his bandmate, Paul Stanley, who had written it as a much more uptempo number about him being the "God Of Thunder" and Rock and Roll. Bob Ezrin, who produced the Destroyer album, heard it, loved it, and much to Paul Stanley's chagrin, gave it to Gene to sing. On the record, it is much slower, plodding, and menacing.
The odd noises in the background are producer Bob Ezrin's kids, David and Josh, who he recorded making spooky noises through a cheap walkie-talkie set. Three years earlier, Ezrin used the boys on the Lou Reed song "The Kids."
Over the years this became a showcase song for Gene Simmons. He would usually perform it after doing the blood spew - always a crowd favorite.
