Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Sorry, Blame It On Me. By Songfacts®.

In this song, Akon expresses contrition for some of his recent behavior, notably a performance at a club in Trinidad And Tobago where he danced very suggestively on stage with a 15-year-old girl. When video of the incident circulated on the Internet, conservative pundits criticized his behavior and he lost an endorsement deal with Verizon. Much of the song is addressed to his family, who he laments not spending enough time with.

This song can be viewed as an apology to Gwen Stefani, who Akon was supporting on her Sweet Escape Tour when the incident in Trinidad And Tobago took place. Gwen lost out as Akon's actions brought a lot of negative publicity to the tour, and Verizon pulled their sponsorship.
