The song opens with a news clip concerning the militarized police response to the peaceful protests in Minneapolis. Throughout the rest of the track, Baby references his own experiences with the unjust criminal justice system and the senselessness of violence against black Americans.

The song title does not appear in the lyrics but is alluded to in the chorus. It's bigger than black and white It's a problem with the whole way of life Baby goes on to admit the issues of racial inequality and police brutality "can't change overnight" but the protests and Black Lives Matter movement represent a crucial step forward.

Lil Baby took part in protests on the Atlanta streets on June 8, 2020. He is depicted on the single's cover art leading the crowd on his bicycle.
