Lauv wrote "Sad Forever" on a plane during a time when he was struggling with depression and OCD. I don't wanna be sad forever I don't wanna go one more day I just wanna wake up and realize Everything's gonna be okay Eventually Lauv came to the realization that what he was doing wasn't working and he needed to get help. I'm coming through to the other side I'll make it through to tomorrow 'Cause that's all I can do today Lauv said: "It's an ongoing journey with ups and downs and finding stability is a process that I'm still heavily working on."
Lauv released the song because he wanted to remove the stigma of mental illness and "help others take their first step to get help, too." All proceeds are being donated to a host of mental health organizations.
The accompanying video was shot live during Lauv's May 20, 2019 headlining concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Manila, Philippines.
