Trivium lead singer Matt Heafy explained in a track by track: "I encourage listeners of this song to use the subject matter to put it toward something in their lives that's a negative force, whether it's a person, a thing or an event. Or an obstacle in their lives. For me it was about a person, and I used the song as the negative outlet for this. I turned that negative thing in my life into something positive."

Matt Heafy's roots are in punk rock, with is reflected on this track. "I love the energy on this song," he said. "I feel it hints back to my pre-metal days. I feel that musically it shows a bit of that punk side. Musically it has that punk attitude, but vocally it has that traditional classic metal: vibrato and attack. So it's a very nice pairing. I think it's a very Trivium thing, but it's unlike anything we've ever had Trivium-wise."
