Foo Fighters were mixing There Is Nothing Left To Lose when Dave Grohl suddenly came up with this song. He recalled: "We were already finished recording and had a couple of days off before mixing, and I came up with this riff. I just thought, 'F--k it. Let's record this, so we recorded it in a day-and-a-half while we were mixing."
Grohl explained the song's lyrical content in another interview: "I thought, 'Wow, this is kind of a cool tune,' and I started writing about the place the band is in now. You'd have to read the lyrics, but it has a lot to do with me going head-on with my hate and I'm amazed that I'm still standing and I demand that we all blend in, and stuff like that."
