AJ Tracey was born and raised in the Ladbroke Grove area of western London. This song finds him recalling his early days when he appeared as a garage MC on pirate radio stations. Tek time, everyting's live and that Because AJ T's on the mic and that The Ladbroke Grove radio station has just gone "live."
The song also acts as a homage to old-school garage. It was inspired in particular by Sweet Female Attitude's single "Flowers," which was a #2 hit in the UK in 2000. Tracey grew up on garage. He told Apple Music: "I am from Ladbroke Grove and I love my hood. It's a sound that people know is real."
"Ladbroke Grove" samples some of Jorja Smith's vocals from her 2018 track "Wandering Romance."
