Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Killing Loneliness. By Songfacts®.

This song may sound like it's about a generic lonely person, but according to lead singer Ville Valo, he wrote it about his close friend Brandon Novak, who used to be a junkie, a user of heroin. Novak called heroin "His Companion" and blamed his addiction on the need to "Kill His Loneliness," since he was abandoned by his family. Novak is a professional skateboarder, and like Valo, friends with Bam Margera - Valo and Novak both appeared in Margera's movie Jackass Number Two. Novak's drug problems would continue to plague him, and in 2011 he was jailed for forging a prescription for the painkiller Xanax.

The first part of this song can be interpreted in a different way than its actual meaning: "Memories sharp as daggers pierce into the flesh of today The suicide of love took away all that matter and buried the remains in an unmarked grave." The different interpretation is how memories of an old relationship can come back to haunt us in the future, even if we think that they are dead and buried.
