Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about The Weather. By Songfacts®.

"The Weather" is the title track of the Australian psychedelic rock band Pond's seventh album. The song contrasts luxury items (lace, champagne) with the shameful treatment of the native people in the country. "It's about the aborigine folks who were dispossessed," keyboard player Jamie Terry said in a Songfacts interview.

Lead singer Nicholas Allbrook said that this song is about how to "live a wholesome respectful life, while being inherently disrespectful."

Shedding some light on the forces that shaped this song, Allbrook told BIRP: "Australians are really apathetic about the rest of the world because we're comfortable as white people. We've inherited the cushiest end of the British Empire after the most f--ked lead-up. We're slowly trying to pull us out of this quite embarrassing apathy and out-and-out racism that pervades a lot of Australia. But it's also beautiful, pure, and people can be kind to each other."
