This song was written by Green Day bass player Mike Dirnt about his friend dying in a car accident and how the event taught Dirnt how to move on with his life.
This was used in the movie 1995 movie Angus, starring George C. Scott.
The song's bass intro later served as inspiration for the opening riff of Blink-182's 1999 single "What's My Age Again?." The band's bassist Mark Hoppus was trying to learn it on his guitar but played it incorrectly. However, he thought the result was cool and used it for the start of the Enema Of The State track.
