"Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe" was written, recorded, and produced by Barry White, as was the case with most of his songs. It's one of two hit singles (the other being "You're the First, the Last, My Everything") from his third studio album Can't Get Enough. In addition to this song charting #1, the album also hit the top spot. Rolling Stone ranked it #281 on their list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
The warm, cozy tones of this song place it squarely in the heyday of '70s soul music. Barry White is often mentioned in close proximity with Isaac Hayes, and his music is considered one of the precursors to disco.
Barry White fell in love in 1973 with Glodean James, who was one of the members of his Love Unlimited backing trio of singers. He wrote this song for her one night when he couldn't get off to sleep. Barry and Glodean married in October 1974 and for a time were one of the best known couples in showbiz. The pair separated in 1988 but never divorced and remained good friends for the remainder of White's life.
