The lyrics to this song were inspired by the H.G. Wells book The Island of Dr. Moreau, which is about a mad scientist on a remote island who conducts horrific experiments on animals, turning them into man-like creatures. Devo's "Jocko Homo" was also inspired by Dr. Moreau.
