Interesting facts and trivia about Hey, Hey, What Can I Do - Remaster. By Songfacts®.

Many Led Zeppelin fans consider "Hey, Hey What Can I Do" a hidden gem in the band's catalog. It was well hidden, released in 1970 in America on the B-side of "Immigrant Song" and in the UK on an Atlantic Records record sampler. It didn't get much attention until 1990, when it was released on Led Zeppelin's boxed set (the band broke up in 1980 when drummer John Bonham died). Radio stations started playing it, and the phones lit up with listeners wondering where this Zeppelin song that wasn't on any of their albums came from. The scarcity added to its appeal and helped keep the song on classic rock playlists for many years.

The song is credited to the full band: Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham. Plant's lyric starts off with a certain innocence: Want to tell you about the girl I love My she looks so fine But we soon learn that this lady has a wild side: I got a woman, want to ball all day I got a woman, she won't be true, no no I got a woman, stay drunk all the time She goes to church with him on Sunday morning, but at night she hangs out at bars and has a good ol' time without him. Sounds like he's been friend-zoned, and there's nothing he can do. "Hey, hey, what can I do?" he asks.

Led Zeppelin never played this song live, although Jimmy Page and Robert Plant played it on their 1995 tour.
