This song is about the legal battles Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain fought for the custody of their daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. Because of their drug use, Love and Cobain had to fight allegations they were unfit parents. Particularly troubling was a 1992 interview Love did with Vanity Fair that implied she was doing drugs while pregnant.
Most of Hole's songs were written by Courtney Love and Eric Erlandson. However, Kat Bjelland, lead singer and guitarist of Babes in Toyland, collaborated in writing this song. When they were young, Jennifer Finch, Courtney Love and Kat Bjelland formed a band called Sugar Babydoll, later called Sugar Bunnyfarm.
"I Think That I Would Die" is an album cut from Live Through This, Hole's second album. It was their big breakthrough, but it was released amid tragedy: Kurt Cobain was found dead just days before it was issued, and the band's bass player, Kristen Pfaff, died from a drug overdose two months later.
