This heart-tugging ballad finds Win Butler singing about a troubled relationship, which he's desperate to maintain. Put your money on me If you think I'm losing you, you must be crazy All your money on me I'm never gonna let you go, even when it's easy Put your money on me Butler is urging his love interest not to leave him.
Speaking in a Song Exploder podcast, Butler said that he wrote "all the lyrics very, very fast". The influences for the song that the Arcade Fire frontman cited include Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing," Vangelis's Blade Runner soundtrack and the vocal harmonies of ABBA.
U2 and Bob Dylan producer Daniel Lanois contributed pedal steel guitar to the track.
