Spoon vocalist Britt Daniel explained the story behind this song to UK newspaper The Sun. "It came to me as an exercise," he said. "I'd noticed there was a song on the Solaris soundtrack called Can I Sit Next to You and there is a song by AC/DC also called that. I figured I could write a song with the same title if I tried."
