Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Where Ya At (feat. Drake). By Songfacts®.

The third track on DS2 (abbreviation for Dirty Sprite 2), this contains the only feature on the album with a verse contributed by Future's touring pal Drake.

The song is an ode to the no new friends motto that Drake lives by. It finds Future addressing all those new people who have started hanging around him since he's become famous. He ponders on the loyalty of these fake friends by repetitively asking, "Where ya ass was at, dog, when..." Drake spits the second verse continuing the same theme when he questions where these fake friends were when he was starting from the bottom, before he took over the city.

Future's original plan for DS2 was to make an album without any guests. "I didn't want to go back into the whole thing of asking somebody to get on the album," he explained. "I wanted everybody to feel positive energy and let the album be about the music and it wasn't about features." The only possible exception he foresaw was Drake on this track. However, Future and his people didn't actively pursue the Toronto MC - it was Drake who contacted them. "Drake called me," he explained. "He was like, 'You turn the album in yet?' I was like, 'Nah.' Organically, it just happened, I feel like. It was just meant to happen."
