"Bigger Than Me" is an impassioned pop song where Louis Tomlinson sings of letting go of self-doubt and embracing change. The singer had been afraid of making the necessary alterations, but now he's done so he doesn't hear the negative voices anymore. Tomlinson's personal growth has enabled him to realize the world outside is bigger than him.
Tomlinson wrote "Bigger Than Me" with: The British songwriting and production duo Red Triangle. The pair, comprising Rick Parkhouse and George Tizzard, have also penned songs for 5 Seconds of Summer ("English Love Affair," "Good Girls") and James Arthur ("Medicine," "September"). Singer and songwriter Robert Harvey. As well as being the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of The Music, Harvey also has penned songs for Clean Bandit ("Real Love"), Joel Corry ("Head And Heart") and David Guetta ("Crazy What Love Can Do"). Mike Crossey (The 1975 and Wolf Alice) produced the track.
"Bigger Than Me" contains a gigantic, emotional chorus and was the first song Tomlinson recorded for his Faith In the Future album. He felt it reflected his live show, so Tomlinson released it as the lead single on September 2, 2022. "It's definitely the biggest sounding song I've got on the record, definitely the song that stands out as being one that should be a single," he told Euphoria. "I wasn't certain I was going to have one of these songs on this record that has a big chorus. It shows off my vocals, so I'm really proud of what we got out of it."
