Mike Posner is an American singer, songwriter, and producer. This single is taken from his second mixtape One Foot Out the Door, which he recorded whilst still a student at Duke University in North Carolina. The original version featured Hip-Hop artist Big Sean, but he was later removed on the single mix.
The song was written by Posner in his Duke University dorm room and was inspired by the types of women he has encountered on the campus there. He recalled on The Ralphie Radio Show: "I can't tell you like after the song came out like how many girls from my past came out of the woodwork and were like 'I know this song is about me. It's like, 'Ugh, you're so vain. It's not about you. But, now that you're saying that, it kinda is.'"
Here's some "cool" chart trivia: This was the fifth song with the word "cool" in its title to reach the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The other four singles to do so were:
