After winning The UK version of X Factor in 2012, James Arthur struggled to deal with the limelight. The singer found himself in a dark place, suffering depression and anxiety that led to panic attacks. On top of this, Arthur made several controversial remarks on social media, which he later regretted, and parted ways with his Syco label. He felt like his dreams were over and he had no purpose in life. Written by Arthur during that tough time, he recounts on this song how his emotional pain made him feel like he was in a train wreck. Unbreak the broken Unsay these spoken words Find hope in the hopeless Pull me out the train wreck Arthur is trying to pull himself out of his dark place and get back to where he wants to be, but cannot escape.

This song informed the creative direction of Arthur's redemption-themed 2016 album, Back From The Edge. The record reached #1 on the UK albums chart, sealing the singer's comeback.

Arthur wrote the song with: Ex-country performer Adam Argyle, who has also worked with the likes of Melanie C ("Next Best Superstar") and Olly Murs ("Busy"). London-based singer-songwriter Andrew Jackson, who co-wrote three of the songs on Back From The Edge.
