This Three track finds Sarah Barthel singing sad lyrics over a sparse EDM-meets-piano instrumental. "'Cruel World' was one of the first songs we wrote for Three," she told Complex. "It set the tone for the album in a huge way for us. The overall message is about how tragic life can be at times - how the world can bring you down... but you have to try to find the beauty in it sometimes."
Dan Wilson wrote this song with the Phantogram duo along with their producer, Ricky Reed. Wilson also co-wrote "You Don't Get Me High Anymore."
