Unlike the Tom Jones "Delilah", which is about a jilted lover who turns homicidal, this Delilah is much more anodyne, an irresistible girl who makes Freddie Mercury smile. As the song goes on, it becomes clear that Delilah is not human: she's actually a cat. Mercury did indeed write it about one of his favorite felines.
This was one of the first tracks recorded for Innuendo, the last album Queen released in Mercury's lifetime. He was suffering from AIDS, and his condition deteriorated as the sessions progressed.
