Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Frou-frou Foxes in Midsummer Fires. By Songfacts®.

In a 2014 interview with The Skinny, Cocteau Twins bassist/guitarist Simon Raymonde said he wrote the song about his father's death. His dad, the arranger Ivor Raymonde, passed away while the band was recording the Heaven Or Las Vegas album. Simon's bandmates, Elizabeth Fraser and Robin Guthrie, had recently become parents to a baby girl, and much of the album reflects their joyous mood. This song stands in contrast. Said Raymonde: "You go from 'Pitch The Baby' which is a joyous song about Elizabeth giving birth and having a kid and how amazing that is over to 'Frou Frou Foxes In Midsummer Fires' which is my song and is quite miserable really, but Elizabeth makes it beautiful with the lyrics."

Like many Cocteau Twins songs, the title doesn't show up in the lyric. "Frou-Frou Foxes in Midsummer Fires" is more nonsensical than most of their titles, but fun to say.
