This is the opening track of How Did We Get So Dark?, Royal Blood's second studio album. The 10 tracks that make up the record were written in instrumental form during sessions in Brighton, Los Angeles and Nashville. Inspiration for the lyrics came from events in vocalist/bassist Mike Kerr's life in the three years since the release of their breakthrough debut LP.
The song is also the album's title track. Asked by The Sun how they came up with the record's name, Mike Kerr replied: "I guess the title sums up the themes throughout. We'd been through ups and downs and so there are lots of different representations. It worked."
The video was directed by The Sacred Egg, who were also behind the clip for Royal Blood's "Lights Out." The visual shows Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher engaged a shoot-out while driving a muscle car filled with bunnies. According to a press release, the clip takes place in a "dystopian future in which rabbits have become a valuable commodity that humans battle to obtain."
