The title track of Trey Songz's eighth album, "Back Home" finds him singing about a tumultuous relationship. He accuses his partner of being a fairweather lover; she's good to be with when things are easy between them, but walks out as soon as there's any friction. Songz' fellow R&B singer Summer Walker gives the girlfriend's point of view. Though her lover gets on her "damn nerves," she misses him when they're not together. They both agree it must be love because however awkward things are between them, they keep coming "back home."
During the hook, Songz interpolates the melody and cadence of the chorus from New Edition's 1988 single "If It Isn't Love."
Released on April 29, 2020 as the lead single from Back Home, this topped the Adult R&B Songs airplay chart. It was Trey Songz' third #1 on the tally and Summer Walker's first.
