Longtime pals Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello took their friendship to another level in July 2019 when they started dating. Here, the Canadian star implores the "Havana" singer to teach him how to please her in bed.
This song is about the early days of Mendes and Cabello's relationship when they were just starting to get intimate. Speaking in the singer's Netflix documentary, Wonder, Mendes explained how the song came about: "'Teach Me How To Love' was the very first song we did in the studio... it's actually one of my favorite songs on the album. It's kind of an outlier because it sounds like it's not in the same world as everything else, but I think that's what makes it feel so good too."
This exploration of R&B and funk features drums played by rapper and multi-instrumentalist Anderson Paak. Mendes told Apple Music he is a huge fan of the California artist and he asked him if he would be willing to contribute percussion to "Teach Me How To Love." Rather than responding, "No, my drums are too good to play on your song," Anderson agreed as he felt it would be an enjoyable experience. "That is a real love of the craft, and it had nothing to do with him or me," Mendes added. "It was just like, 'Yeah, this'll be fun.'"
