Interesting facts and trivia about Man's World. By Songfacts®.

This dreamy song finds Marina criticizing the oppressive treatment of women throughout history. The singer concludes on the chorus she does not "want to live in a man's world anymore."

During the second verse Marina takes issue with one particular man's attitude towards LGBT individuals. Marilyn's bungalow it's number seven In the pink palace where men made her legend Owned by a sheik who killed thousands of gay men I guess that's why he bought the Campest Hotel in LA then Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei, owns the Beverly Hills Hotel, which includes a bungalow where Marilyn Monroe used to stay. In 2019, he implemented legislation that introduced the death penalty by stoning for homosexuality.

Written solely by Marina in August 2019, she explained to Vogue she was inspired by the shifts in attitudes towards misogynism and homophobia. "The original idea for the song was to write a snapshot of how women and LGBTQ+ individuals have been subjugated and discriminated against throughout history going back to the Salem witch trials, where any person who was deemed abnormal or slightly alternative was singled out," Marina said. "Those kinds of patterns are still present in society. That's something inspiring to me and worth writing about."
